July, 2009 - The
New England Championship was hosted by the Eastern Point Yacht Club in Gloucester on July 11 & 12. Great ocean racing,
five exciting races, a well managed regatta and a wonderful party at Bob Crandall's home on Eastern Point! The new boat
skippered by Charlie Henry and Eric Richter started off with a bang winning the first race, and was knocked out by a bang
by hitting Charette II, skippered by Mark DeShong, during the second race. DeShong's boat was retired from the regatta
due to damage, while the new boat was repaired and raced the two races on Sunday capturing a 1st and a 2nd!
Gordo Baird was the Champion, tying with Kevin Riley overall, and winning
using his two firsts as the determinative tie-breaker. Current National Champion Bill Donald finished third with consistent
finishes of 6, 3, 3, 3 and 4.
Thanks to all the Gloucester 210 people for a job well done.
June 2009 - The newest 210, #462, has been purchased
by the Cohasset duo of Charlie Henry, the 2001 National Champion, and long-time skipper Eric Richter, who has returned to
Cohasset following moves to non-210 areas of the country. Charlie finished second, to class President Mark DeShong, in the
2009 Richard A. Sullivan Regatta. DeShong, and teammates Keith O'Leary and John Murphy, posted three first place
finishes, while Charlie finished with two seconds and a fourth. Look for both of these boats, #461 and #462, to be frontrunners
at the '09 Nationals in Hingham.
